Lucky Us: Would've, Should've, Could've

  Maggie and I were in the car driving about when we looked and saw the lone horse on the hill. It was an amazing sight to see. We captured it with the iPhone camera. Where was our new Canon camera with the telephoto lens when we needed it? At home of course still in the box laying there unopened. Busy us. No time to set it up yet. Dang! All we could think is how amazing that horse would've looked through a more powerful lens.... Oh well, we shook it off. Reminder to self: get the camera ready. So, yesterday before Maggie and I went for our walk afternoon I had a feeling something special was going to happen. A little warning sound went off in my head take the Canon camera. I ignored my warning. Maggie and I had stuff to do, no time to dilly dally and take photos on our walk. Holy cow, we're half way through our walk when a red tailed hawk flies right in front of us and goes across the street and lands on a tree top. I pulled out the iPhone and took a photo of the hawk. The whole time I'm telling Maggie "would've, should've, could've" holy smokes! Maggie looked at me with that I told you so look. OK, OK, I'm unpacking the camera. Maybe next time a meeting of preparation with opportunity will yield us some luck close up.

BRAVE: Paper Free, Save A Tree

Maggie's pawsability thought for the day:

  This past weekend we went to see the Disney PIXAR movie BRAVE. It's an incredibly beautiful movie that  had us in stitches we were laughing so hard. It also brought tears to our eyes. It's the kind of movie Maggie would love if they allowed a MaggieMoose in the theater. We anticipated a big crowd so we bought our tickets online. The tickets were sent via text to the iPhone. No paper. We were paper free to save a tree. We went to the theater, flashed the iPhone, and in we went. Popcorn in hand we were sitting in front of the big screen viewing an incredibly beautiful forest scene. Watching the spectacular nature animation on the screen brought us a little closer to Nature's heart. We sat knowing we saved a tree by being paper free. Woof Woof

Double Birds' Eye View

Western Scrub-Jay nest 

  In our yard, high up little chirps caught Maggie's and my attention. I looked up and saw a Blue Jay (really the Western Scrub-Jay) hop in a nest. WOW! So exciting! Everyone that knows me, knows I love birds. As a kid I was the kind of kid that for fun perused a field manual for birds. I also had a pet parakeet named Pal that could talk. I'm still in love with John James Audubon bird paintings. My happiness in seeing the bird's nest seized me. I still have parakeets (Tommy & Jerry) so, I can always hear the melodious sounds and chirps of birds year around. After the nest sighting Maggie and I took a walk. I saw something big and white on top of an oak tree. What the heck was that? Was it litter? Omigosh, it's a Great White Egret on top of the tree! It looked grand sitting there. I took out my iPhone and pushed the zoom to the hilt-snap went the photo shot. The resultant photo was a humble enlargement of the greatness of this bird.

Maggie looked bored while I made her wait in the middle of our walk. 

I felt really lucky to be surprised with two magnificent moments of happiness seizing me so unexpectedly. Meanwhile, my faithful friend Maggie tolerated my madness and semi-pretended to be happy for me. I think her happiness was being outdoors in the fresh air while mine was high up on the tree tops with a double birds' eye view. And, of course, with my buddy Maggie too.

(ps. I wonder if I should tell Maggie about the field guides I have for fish, seashells, tide pools, and more?)
