MaggieMoose: Let's Walk The Talk

Maggie's pawsability thought for the day:
"Life is what happens while you are busy making other plans."

Maggie and I lived life large around the holidays. Last week she went to see Dr. Karen Blount, her Veterinarian at Mid-Peninsula Animal Hospital for her almost two year old annual check-up. She stepped on the scales and WHOA it read 54 lbs! She gained four pounds since her last weigh-in. OK, my fault. Not enough walks. I confess I didn't feel like walking her in our daily deluge of rain over the holidays. And company was here.... Omigosh, I have a million excuses. Maybe it was grandma's fault? She's the one who kept saying let her have another, it's Christmas.... One too many treats Maggie. We check in at the counter after the surprising weigh-in. Maggie's buddy Yarrow greeted her. What a sweetheart, Yarrow remembers Maggie since she was a puppy. Then Angelo, the gentle giant (football player comes to mind) lowers himself to give Maggie a little healthy heart biscuit. Maggie's in love. We go into the room and the door closes. Maggie is looking all around. Memories? In between becoming a blur, she pants.

And continues to pant while waiting for what? Meanwhile there's talking outside the door. Maggie stops panting to listen while staring at the door. On high alert she listens to the talking. All panting ceases. Maggie's eyes remain focused on the door we came through. Eavesdropping Maggie?

Back to panting. Now Maggie hears rumblings towards the other door to her left. She switches focus.

In walks Dr. Karen Blount her Vet, with someone to shadow besides her. The news is Maggie's healthy, but the ideal weight recommended is between 48-50 lbs. OK, we have a prescription for a little reduction in the daily kibble and on my end a major decrease in the treat rations. Life happened on the large size. Since it is the New Year Maggie, let's get physical and start walking the talk. WOOF WOOF

MaggieMoose: Wake Up & Run!

Maggie's pawsability thought for the day:
"A bear, however hard he tries, grows tubby without exercise."

Maggie wakes me up by my hearing four paws moving in her crate in my room. Reluctantly I get up. I'm reminded it's Maggie's almost 2 year old check up appointment at the Veterinarian's. Maggie is full throttle inside the house after going outside. She runs to her toy bin and grabs the square ball thing. Like a flash she whizzes by me carrying the orange square ball. Yesterday I bought this toy for Maggie while I was out and about. It's a hit! She carries it around, she runs with it, she bats it like a soccer ball with her feet and nudges it with her nose.

Maybe I should call it the exercise ball? For one nanosecond Maggie lay at my feet with the ball between her paws-then she was gone....carrying the ball.

I guess this is what folks mean by get a running start to your day? The best part is Maggie has got me scrambling to gulp down my coffee, take her on a quick run, and head to the Vet's for her check-up. The scale will tell if Maggie needs to keep running when she wakes up. We both had a lot of treats over the holidays. Maggie couldn't help it-Grandma was in town. Echoes of Oh, let her have it, it's Christmas, ring in my head.... Good thing we have the square ball!
